...creating community that loves God and serves others.
Mission is about being 'sent' and it involves the whole of life. It is firstly about responding to the final command that Jesus gave his disciples after his resurrection − to "go and make disciples of all nations" (Matthew 28 v16-20). Therefore it involves using appropriate opportunities to tell others about the life, death and resurrection of Jesus and inviting people to respond to Jesus by turning from their current way of life to a life lived for God daily through seeking to serve him.
This is great news for our neighbours, our networks, our local community and family life, because living to please God will mean loving him and loving our neighbour as ourselves. This is reflected in our Vision Statement and our Values. We believe that God is a 'sending God' (missio Dei is Latin for 'the sending of God.') God sends his Son and the Spirit into the world, and the Father, Son and Spirit sends the church into the world for the sake of the world.
- Isaiah 6:6-8:
- Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, "Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?" And I said, "Here am I. Send me!" He said, "Go and tell this people...."
- 1 John 4:9:
- This is how God showed his love among us: he sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him.
- John 20:21:
- Again Jesus said, "Peace be with you! As the Father has sent me, I am sending you."
Mission is also about our life together. Our desire is to model the example of the Church in Acts 2:42-47 where the first Christians shared personal resources and ate meals together as well as pray and learn about Jesus together. They welcomed new people and supported those in need. So we desire to be a welcoming community also, and becoming mangers of the Community Centre is a vitally important part of our mission in serving our neighbours.
