New Life Baptist Church was founded in September 2005, prior to which we were the Stoughton Congregation of Guildford Baptist Church. For 15 years, we met for Sunday worship at Northmead Junior School.
We are a fairly a young church with a larger than average number of young families with children.
We respect a variety of Christian traditions and identify ourselves most comfortably with the evangelical tradition. Therefore we desire to understand the variety of books found in the Bible within their context and to make sense of the Bible for today's world. What we believe.
Our heart has always been for the community and we employ a part-time Families and Community worker. We are involved in local schools leading assemblies and children's lunch clubs and an evening youth club.
We have been involved with Ready4Action - Matrix Trust for many years. Ready4Action is an annual three-day event where volunteers from local churches help local residents with decorating and gardening jobs.
In 2010, we won the bid to develop the empty Community Centre. After fund raising, generous donations and a grant from SITA Trust, the interior was finished including meeting rooms and offices. After equipping the Centre for public use, we opened in 2011. Since then we have developed two very popular Toddler groups and the FNT youth club.
On the fourth Sunday of most months, we provide a breakfast at 10am or a lunch at 12.30pm @ £1.50 each. Please join us, but let us know so that we don't run out of food!
At the heart of our life as a church, is a desire to live a life of love for God, for each other and the environment (it is God's world!). We want to care for people practically, also to explain the rationality of Christianity and answer life questions such as: What does God do about suffering? Is there life after death?
We represent people of different nationalities, backgrounds and viewpoints. We have families, retired folk, single people, single parents and we all get on really well and love to have fun together.
